New Printer: Epson R2880

About six weeks ago I got my first *real* photo printer. The Epson R2880 prints 13″ wide prints that look as good as anything I’ve done in the darkroom (if using the really good, really expensive paper).

Of the prints I’ve made, almost all have been from scanned B&W negatives, a few from the M8 and a few from the LX3. The digital prints, even the M8, tend to have too much contrast. The highlights are washed out. This could be due to my inexperience with digital cameras (I hope). I am still looking for good LR settings that will help my M8 shots look more like my color film shots. LR wants to apply settings that make the M8 shots way too ‘punchy’ for my tastes, although several other people have commented that they like that look (sometimes referred to as the ‘digital’ hyper-real look).

I couldn’t be happier with the prints I’ve made from my film shots. Now I need to work on getting good prints from the M8.
